Stop buying granola at the grocery store!
Granola is one of those things where I’ll eat for breakfast with yogurt and fruit everyday AND it also makes a cheap & easy hiking snack. Making your own granola at home is cheap (buy the ingredients in bulk), easy (takes less than 30 minutes) and you can custom tailor it to exactly how you want it. Yum!
Homemade Honey Nut Granola Recipe
Ingredients
¼ cup melted coconut oil
¼ cup honey or agave nectar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ginger
1 & ½ cup rolled oats
½ cup chopped almonds
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside
- In a large bowl, stir all ingredients together until all the dry ingredients are completely coated
- Dump the mixture on top of the parchment paper on the cookie sheet and spread evenly into one layer, covering the entire baking sheet
- Bake for 10 minutes, remove from the oven, stir and then bake for 10 more minutes.
- Remove from the oven, stir again and then bake an additional 5 minutes. Cook time should be a total of 25 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let the granola cool completely before storing in an airtight container. I like using a large mason jar.
You can store your Homemade Honey Nut Granola at room temperature for up to two weeks in an airtight container.
One serving is ½ cup. Each serving is 300 calories with 6 grams of protein and comes out to about $0.55 per serving.
